ENRIQUE HANEINE
Biography
Born in Mexico City, Enrique Haneine holds four degrees, including his Masters in Jazz Piano Performance from The Boston Conservatory and Berklee College of Music, and is known for his versatile performance and leadership roles in both the Mexican pop scene and the New York jazz world. From his past roles as music director, pianist and arranger for Ricky Martin, Vina del Mar music festival, and for numerous Mexican television productions (such as the Eres Awards) Haneine's reputation as a brilliant artist and talented arranger are well deserved. Today his repertoire has evolved and matured into the realm of free, standard and Latin jazz.
After moving to Boston in 1996 Haneine began intensive private studies with numerous outstanding musicians. Haneine cites the influence that his sessions with Hal Crook, Jerry Bergonzi, Joanne Brackeen, Kenny Werner, Charlie Banacos, Laszlo Gardony, Danilo Perez, Paul Schmeling, Ray Santisi, and Janice Weber had on informing his unique personal style, which blends innovative technique with uninhibited, yet intelligent improvisation.
Immediately recognized for his ability and presence, Enrique has been showered with awards, from winning the Jane Jarvis Jazz Piano Competition and being named Eubie Blake Scholar at Berklee three years in a row, selected candidate at the Martial Solal International Jazz Piano Competition in Paris, France. All About Jazz New York's Best of 2005 Albums of the Year , performing for the 2013 Grammy nominated Best Latin Jazz Album "Multiverse" also performed at The United Nations General Assembly Hall for the 2012 UNESCO International Jazz Day, as well as performances at places like Lincoln Center, Apollo Theatre, The Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian as well as multiple Jazz Festivals and jazz clubs around the world.
With his definitive move to New York City in 2000, Enrique has grown as both a soloist, band leader, and member of numerous trios/quartets, playing in venues such as The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (DC), Jazz at Lincoln Center (NYC), Birdland (NYC), Sweet Rhythm (NYC), Nuyorican Poets Cafe (NYC), Bowery Poetry Club (NYC), Blues Alley (DC), Cornelia Street Cafe (NYC), Knitting Factory (NYC), Detour (NYC), Kavehaz (NYC), Bubble Lounge (NYC), Garage (NYC), and in such institutions as NYU, Pratt Institute, Rockefeller University.
Additionally, Haneine can be found playing at jazz festivals around the US and Internationally. Aside from giving private lessons and master classes, Enrique Haneine has been faculty at the Boston Conservatory Special Division, Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Manhattan, Jazz at Lincoln Center for Young People Tour and Alvin Ailey Dance Company's Arts in Education program, as well as Community Service through different kind of music performances for several sectors of the community.
Haneine is one of the leaders in the collaborative project AGRAZING MAZE, a quartet often joined by Ingrid Jensen on trumpet. All About Jazz magazine named their first CD release, At the End of the Day, as one of New York's Best of 2005 Album of the Year, and gave the quartet glowing reviews.
Haneine has had the honor of performing alongside numerous great musicians, significantly Joe Hunt, Bobby Sanabria, Joe Lovano, Jon Faddis, Mark Feldman, Wynton Marsalis, Ruben Blades, Harvie S, Ingrid Jensen, Hugh Fraser, Phil Nimmons, Candido Camero, Dave Valentin, Dave Pietro, Mark Shim, Tyshawn Sorey, Dave Shroeder, Christophe Schweizer, Vince Cherico, Bruce Gertz, Orlando Marin, Ray Vega, Ruben Rodriguez and John Benitez among Others. Chosen as the pianist for Chembo Corniel's Latin Percussion Instructional DVD (Warner), Haneine's superb mastery of multiple styles has been affirmed by his role as principal piano player in several Jazz and Latin bands as well.
